ASTM standard specifies the specific manufacturing process and precise chemical composition requirements of steel pipe, pipe fitting and flange materials, including the content percentage of carbon, manganese, nickel and other chemical elements. Various materials are distinguished by grade.
For example: carbon steel pipe materials are distinguished by a and B grades, stainless steel pipe materials are represented by TP304 or TP321, carbon steel pipe parts are crowned by steel grade WPB, etc.

In an engineering project bill of materials, ASTM steel grades are frequently used in the description of steel pipes, pipe fittings, flanges, valves, bolts and studs to form a system as a whole.
As you know, ASTM A105 has no distinction between steel grades, and people sometimes use the description method of ASTM a105n. N doesn’t mean a steel grade, it means normalizing. Normalizing is a kind of heat treatment, which is only used for ferrite materials. The purpose of normalizing is to eliminate the internal stress formed during forging, casting or forming.
