An orifice flange is used in combination with orifice meters to measure the flow rate of oil, gas and other liquids conveyed by the pipeline. Pairs of pressure tappings are machined onto the orifice flange, making separate tappings on the pipe wall unnecessary.
Two orifice flanges with bolts and jack screws are referred to as an orifice flange union, which is used in conjunction with an orifice plate. Compared with weld neck flange and slip on flange, it is provided radial, tapped holes in the flange ring for meter connections and additional bolts to facilitate separating the flanges for inspection of the orifice plate.
The traditional orifice flange assembly consists of a pair of flanges, orifice plate, bolts, nuts, gaskets, jacking screws and plugs, (where requested). The flanges are generally weld neck design. Other options are available such as Slip-on and threaded, although careful consideration should be taken in the location of the orifice tappings with these designs.
Available tapping options include:
Flange Tap Flanges tappings – For internal line sizes greater 50mm
Corner Tap Flanges with annular chamber tappings – For internal line sizes under 50mm
Corner Tap Flanges with angle tappings – For internal line sizes under 50mm
