Pipe nipples and threaded couplings are the commonly used forged pipe fittings, both are a short pipe with threads, but they are different. There are the difference between threaded couplings and pipe nipples.
A pipe nipple is a fitting that consisting of a short straight piece of pipe, and with male threads on both ends or one ends to connect two/one other female threaded fittings or pipes. It is often divided into single head and double head or ordinary and hex nipples. It adopts either external thread or plug-in welding to reach the male/female head of the coupling/union, matching the seal. The main thread standards are the American standard ASME B16.11 and the national standard GB/T14626. Among all, NPT (National-American Pipe Thread) RC threads (Conical Threaded, Female) enjoy great popularity in the market.
A pipe coupling is a very short length of pipe or tube which used in piping system, and it allows two pipes or tubes of equal or different size to be joined together.According to the connection type, pipe coupling can be divided into threaded coupling and socket weld coupling generally.Threaded coupling means the coupling has threads at one or both ends.Socket weld coupling means the coupling with socket at one or both ends.It is a commonly used accessory for industrial pipe connections. The forged coupling is formed by heating and forging with a steel ingot or a round bar, and then machined on the lathe to make the thread. The main manufacturing standards are ASME B16.11,BS 3799,and GB/T14383.
